Data File Maintenance
For Date Sensitive Software
Most MetaStock data files are not self cleaning and over time will accumulate old stock symbols that are no longer active. This will cause a problem with any trial or rented software program that relies on each symbol's last downloaded data date to check for a current software licence. To run date sensitive software using MetaStock data files it is essential that you clean your data directories of old un updated symbols. Typically this applies only to temporary trial and rented software. Purchased software does not normally check the current data date and will run old data, however, this is not a good practice anyway.
Below is a snapshot of an un maintained MetaStock data file opened with the MetaStock DownLoader program.
This snapshot was taken after updating end of day data on 1/8/2003. Note the symbol "CAD" had not been updated since 7/17/2001. This will cause a password to not work in date sensitive software. The password provided may not cover old data and you will get an incorrect password error.
If you are using date sensitive software, deleting obsolete symbols is required.
